Hello readers. Long time no write. I come to you today with a chili review to kick off the 2023-2024 chili season.
A couple weeks ago, I traveled to CA to visit my parents. One day, my mom and I decided to stop by a place called Mollie’s Famous Cafe in San Juan Capistrano. It was a charming diner with bottomless coffee, which is the best kind of coffee.
We weren’t super hungry so we both got the half soup & half sandwich deal. Except of course I got chili in the soup’s stead.
Appearance

To be honest, it was difficult to separate the appearance of the chili from that of the sandwich, which looks scrumptious. I also cannot ignore the insane amount of onions on that chili, all of which looked raw. There’s a good color going on here, but the chili is mostly covered up by the toppings. For these reasons, I’m giving it a 3 in appearance. I’m sure it would look better in a bowl than in a cup.
Appearance rating: 3/5
Flavor
Nothing too exciting. Nothing too bad. Pretty average.
Flavor rating: 3/5
Texture
I’m sorry to say but the texture was … chalky. That is not a word I would ever want to describe a bowl of chili. Maybe it was sitting out for too long in the kitchen. Also, like I said, the onions were raw, which brought an unwelcome crunch to this whole experience. Needless to say, didn’t love the texture.
Texture rating: 2/5
Food Dance Factor
No dancing happened as a result of this chili.

Overall
Look, before you read the rest of this, you have to understand, I am not a chili expert and have no history of liking chili more than the average person. I have no emotional connection to chili and I just wanted an excuse to start a blog and I thought this was funny. You also have to understand that I fucking love Dire Straits. With that being said, while I was eating this chili, Sultans of Swing came on on the radio. So because of this, I’m gonna have to give this chili a perfect score. And will be returning to Mollie’s next chance I get.
Overall rating: 20/20
Bonus points
Cute Halloween decorations and good vibes 🙂
